In 2 Thessalonians, Paul addressed issues of increased persecution the new believers experienced, and their confusion over the timing of Christ’s return. Anytime we are in a moment of terror, uncertainty, or bleakness, we wonder “is this the time of Christ’s return?” In response, Paul provides this letter as a pastor trying to comfort God’s people, and keep them from coming unhinged as they experience suffering. The ultimate call is to “stand firm and hold fast.” (2 Thessalonians 2:15). These are words we can take to heart anytime our lives  face the pressures and uncertainties that this world encroaches upon us.
